International scientific cooperation

Irkutsk academic institutions carry out international scientific cooperation in various directions. The first Soviet-Mongolian expedition took place in 1958, initiating joint seismological research between Irkutsk and Mongolian scientists. In the modern period, scientists from Russia and Mongolia continue studying seismic processes and working on transboundary water resources and carboniferous polygons.

Academic institutions in Irkutsk cooperate with colleagues from Europe in various fields – chemistry and biology, mathematics and energy, physics and geology. Institute of Systems Dynamics and Control Theory SB RAS collaborates with universities in Italy, Spain and France in the fields of fundamental and applied mathematics and computer science. The L. A. Melentiev Institute of Energy Systems SB RAS collaborates with Dortmund University of Technology (Germany) in modelling of distributed electricity networks. The Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. A. Vinogradov Institute of Geochemistry SB RAS collaborates with the Royal Society of London on climate research. Institute of Earth Crust SB RAS together with European Cooperation in Science and Technology (Belgium) implements the “Plastic Monitoring: Detection, Remediation Measures” project.
